TouchSensor® Technologies’ LevelGuard® Pump Switch Passes 1,500,000 Cycles in Laboratory Test

The LevelGuard electronic sump pump switch will last more than 1,500,000 cycles.Wheaton, IL, September 9, 2015 – TouchSensor® Technologies, a division of Methode Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: MEI), a global developer of custom engineered and application specific products and solutions, announced today that its LevelGuard Electronic Sump Pump Switch recently passed the 1,500,000 cycle milestone without failure in a laboratory reliability test. The current test of LevelGuard has been available for viewing online in real-time since it began in June 2014.

"LevelGuard is proving its value to plumbing contractors and homeowners who need to eliminate sump pump switch failure," stated Jay Orellana, business development manager for LevelGuard. "For property owners faced with water continually seeping into their basements, LevelGuard pays off quickly when compared to the typical mechanical float switch which typically fails after only 250,000 cycles. The LevelGuard is built to last, and we believe LevelGuard will surpass 2 million cycles early next year."

LevelGuard, which utilizes Field-Effect sensor technology, was designed to surpass 1.5 million cycles and provide a better solution than the current float switch technology for pump OEMs' and homeowners. Mechanical float switches are the number one cause of failure in sump pump systems, and the 1,500,000 cycle milestone is further evidence that LevelGuard can dramatically improve the reliability of the system by employing a solid-state design.

Four LevelGuard SKUs are available, including a sewage model, with 9 foot and 15 foot cords that use piggy-back plugs, as well as a 30 foot pigtail cord. The LevelGuard sump pump switch utilizes TouchSensor's patented Field-Effect sensing technology to detect water at two upper level and one lower level switch points. Both LevelGuard and its patented Field-Effect sensing technology are Underwriters Laboratories listed. LevelGuard carries a warranty of five years against manufacturer's defects.

TouchSensor™ Technologies Launches LevelGuard™ Pump Control Product Line

LevelGuard Home Sum ControlWheaton, IL, June 30, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- TouchSensor™ Technologies announced the introduction of the LevelGuard™ Home Sump Pump Control, which introduces solid-state Field-Effect sensing technology to the pump and plumbing industries.  LevelGuard Home Sump Controls use Field-Effect technology to detect the presence of water in residential sump pits without making direct contact with the fluid.  The LevelGuard Home Sump Control is used to "turn-on" and "turn-off" a residential sump pump with more reliable performance than the mechanical float switches they are designed to replace.

"Sump pumps are in use more often than you might think.  More than 10% of all basements in the U.S. report some form of water leakage through the foundation. The proper operation of sump pump systems for homeowners is imperative”, states Dave Dzioba, TouchSensor’s Director of Standard Products. "Plumbers and basement waterproofing professionals report that conventional float switches are the weakest link in those systems.  With no moving parts to wear or fail, the LevelGuard™ Home Sump Pump Control switch becomes the most reliable element in the system.”

Field-Effect's low-power electric field has the unique ability to detect conductive fluids (for example, water) and semi-solid materials without having direct contact.  When water enters the LevelGuard field, the sensor detects its presence, determines its state, and activates the pump if needed. TouchSensor’s™ LevelGuard™ brand products utilizing Field-Effect sensing technology are well-suited for sump, lift station, underground vault, wet well and storm water fluid level management applications.

Since their introduction in 1997, Field-Effect sensing technology has been successfully used in a wide variety of consumer applications with nearly 200 million sensors sold.  In fluid detection applications, they have become the de facto standard in marine and recreational vehicle applications where fluid sensing, control, and monitoring are a critical need.  Field-Effect sensors in sump pump applications have been tested to 1.5 million cycles without failure, and to over 165 million cycles in user interface applications before ending test.  Field-Effect has earned the recognition as a proven, reliable, solid-state switching technology.

The MSRP of the LevelGuard Home Sump Control is $115.  Both LevelGuard Home Sump Pump Controls and its patented Field-Effect sensing technology are Underwriters Laboratories listed.  The switch has a warranty of five (5) years against manufacturers defects.  Please visit www.LevelGuardProducts.com to learn more.

About TouchSensor Technologies, LLC:  TouchSensor Technologies is the market leader in solid-state Field-Effect switching technology.  TouchSensor has produced and shipped over four million input panels used in the consumer durables sector, including home appliances used for cooking, laundry, refrigeration, dishwashing, as well as bath/shower controls. Its technology is also used in commercial applications such as exercise equipment, point of sale beverage dispensers, and automotive applications. TouchSensor has more than 15 patents for its solid-state Field-Effect switching technology. Please visit http://www.touchsensor.com to learn more.

TouchSensor™ Technologies Launches LevelGuard Marine and RV Pump Controls

Wheaton, IL, June 30, 2010 -- TouchSensor Technologies announced the launch of the LevelGuard™ Fluid Controls product line, which introduces solid-state Field-Effect sensing technology for fluid level detection applications in the Marine and RV industries. LevelGuard Fluid Control Products use solid-state Field-Effect sensors to detect fluid levels in plastic fresh, grey and black water tanks, alert users to high water bilge situations and control bilge pumps. Because of their solid-state design there is nothing to wear-out or breakdown on the LevelGuard products.

SensaLevel Ultra™Tank Sensors, the SensaTank RV100 Multi-Tank Monitoring System and the SensaTank II Monitoring System are easily installed on the exterior of fresh water, grey water, black water holding tanks of recreational vehicles. Field-Effect sensors never come in direct contact with the fluid and thus do not require holes to be drilled in tanks which could result in future leak paths. In addition, the sensors are designed to overcome temperature, humidity and vibration obstacles that are prevalent in the RV industry.

SensaSwitch Ultra Bilge Pump control is a CE rated, 12 & 24 VDC compatible device that will essentially make any non-automatic submersible bilge pump automatic. The SensaLevel High Water Bilge Alarm system is a 12 VDC system which provides the visual and audible alarm required by the U.S. Coast Guard (46 CFR 182.530). The SensaLevel Ultra™Tank Sensor, SensaTank II Monitoring System and SensaTank Marine 100 offer high-performance measurement and monitoring of water and wastewater holding tanks in harsh marine environments.

Field-Effect sensors create a unique low-power electric field that has the ability to detect fluid through non-conductive substrate materials such as plastic or glass. When a conductive material like water enters the LevelGuard field, the sensor detects its presence, determines its state, and sends a signal to the system controller.

Field-Effect sensing technology has become the de facto standard in marine and recreational vehicle OEM applications where fluid sensing, control, and monitoring are a critical need and is recognized as a proven, reliable, solid-state switching technology. LevelGuard Fluid Control Products and Field-Effect sensing technology are Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Listed.

TouchCell Field-Effect Switch

Streamlining control and cockpit design while reducing operator distraction and fatigue is a major initiative among vehicle designers and manufacturers. TouchSensor delivers an innovative alternative to present switch and control systems. TouchCells are manufactured by TouchSensor on a rigid or flexible PCB. When 5 volts is applied to the TS100, an electric field is created. The field emanates through any dielectric substrate such as glass, plastic or leather. When a conductive mass enters the field, the sensor detects the change and indicates an event has occurred. The input stimulus to the field can take the form of the human finger, metal or liquid.
